A proud alumnus of the University of Johannesburg (UJ), Professor Holzapfel embodied the fusion of deep scientific acumen and genuine humility. He generously shared not only his vast knowledge but also cherished memories with me, reflecting a bond that extended beyond mentorship into warm friendship.
I recall with great fondness the Saturday sessions in his home garage, where we collaboratively embarked on pioneering work – mixing the first concentrates of Quadex (V3). Those moments of dialogue, experimentation, and shared passion for chemistry were more than mere meetings; they were enriching encounters that reflected Professor Holzapfel’s dedication to nurturing talent and advancing science. His professionalism, warmth, and willingness to impart wisdom continue to inspire.
